POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist water polo team defeated the Siena Saints 13-9 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes celebrated senior day in extraordinary fashion, as all three seniors found the back of the net in the first quarter of the win.
With the victory, Marist finishes the year with a stellar 6-0 record. Meanwhile, the Saints end the year 1-8.
- The first quarter was all Red Foxes. Marist's first three goals were scored by its seniors, a wonderful way to celebrate senior day. Aminadi Anorve, Lauren Smith and Katelin Harris gave the Red Foxes a 3-0 lead.
- Shinae Carrington scored the next two goals for Marist, both coming towards the end of the first quarter. Red Foxes led 5-0 after one.
- The first quarter was huge for Marist, as Siena was able to claw back into the game from that point on. The Saints won the second quarter, and trailed 7-3 at halftime.
- Both teams came out firing in the third quarter, and each scored three goals and the lead remained the same for Marist, 10-6.
- Siena scored the first two goals of the fourth period, just 30 seconds in, and Marist's lead was cut to two very quickly.
- The Red Foxes were resilient, and did not allow the Saints to take control. They answered with a couple goals of their own and went on to win 13-9.
The Red Foxes will have a week of practice before returning to the pool for the MAAC Championships next weekend. They will be hosted at McCann Natatorium, and will take place on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.
