POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist water polo team is set to face Salem University in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. EDT.
Competing in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in program history, and first time since 2010, the Red Foxes traveled to Los Angeles, California for the event that will be hosted at the Spieker Aquatics Center, the home of the UCLA Bruins.

- This is the first NCAA Appearance for the Red Foxes under the leadership of Head Coach Chris Vidale
- Marist's last appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 2010.
- This will be the program's fifth NCAA appearance in program history. Besides 2010, they also came in 2009, 2008, and 2006.
- The Red Foxes have won two games in the NCAA Tournament throughout the history of the program.
- Marist's latest victory in the big dance came over Pomona-Pitzer in 2010.
- The water polo team also defeated Cal Lutheran in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

- The Red Foxes are 8-0 overall heading into the tournament.
- Marist is coming off two straight victories in the MAAC Championship, most recently defeating VMI 13-10 in the MAAC Championship.
- Vilktoria Orlova was named the tournament's MVP, while Justin Castro, Shinae Carrington, and Myriam Lizotte were named to the All-Championship Team.
- At the end of the regular season, Marina Hyham was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and Vidale earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors.
- Hyham, Lizotte, Carrington, and Lizotte earned All-MAAC First Team recognition for the regular season, while Castro and Orlova made the All-MAAC Second Team.

- This tournament will be a big homecoming for many of the Red Foxes.
- 16 members of this year's roster are from California, which accounts for 70% of the roster
- Aminadi Anorve is from Los Angeles and will be returning to her hometown for the event.

- Lizotte tied for the team-lead in points with 22, scoring 16 goals and dishing six assists.
- Lizotte also leads the team with nine steals and four field goal blocks.
- Castro had eight assists and drew six exclusions, leading the team in both categories.
- Goalkeeper Marina Hyham has 52 saves and a .525 save percentage for the season.

- The Tigers are ranked 25th in the nation.
- They defeated Mercyhurst University 8-4 in the WWPA Championships to punch a ticket into the NCAA Tournament.
- The Tigers finished 2021 with a 18-11 overall record.
- Salem's leading goal scorer is Annefleur Ten Bloemendal with 71 on the season.
- Margherita Garibbo leads the Tigers in assists and points with 56 and 114, respectively.
- Philippa Piper has a 15-11 record as Salem's goalkeeper, and her save percentage in .390 with 317 total saves.
