Women's Basketball Drops Game Against Penn

Shazer Sets Career High with Five Assists

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team dropped its second straight game as they fell to the University of Pennsylvania 65-61 on Thursday night at McCann Arena.
 
Summary
  • After giving up the first bucket of the game, Marist went on a 13-2 run over the next 6:25. At the end of the first quarter the Red Foxes led the Quakers 13-7.
  • The Quakers took a 27-23 lead at halftime as Marist hit just two of their eleven field goal attempts to end the second quarter.
  • Marist held Penn to 28 percent from the field in the first half, but Kayla Padilla poured in 19 points for the Quakers.
  • The Quakers had a scoring drought that amounted to over four minutes in the third quarter.
  • At the end of the third, Penn led 43-38. Turnovers hurt the Red Fox offense as they amassed 14 after three quarters.
  • The Red Foxes outscored the Quakers 23-22 in the final period.

  • Graduate student Kendall Krick led the Red Foxes in points with 18 on 6-for-14 shooting from the field, including 6-for-9 from downtown. Krick also led the team in rebounds with eight.
  • Junior Zaria Shazer finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Shazer collects a career high of five assists. 
  • Junior Kiara Fisher chipped in with 12 points and a game-high five steals.
  • The Red Foxes shot 37 percent from the field (23-for-62) and 47 percent from beyond the arc (9-for-19).
  • The Quakers scored 19 points off of free throws, shooting 70 percent from the line (19-for-27).
