Women's Lacrosse Announces 2023 Schedule

Red Foxes Set to Play 16 Regular Season Games

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's lacrosse team has released its schedule for this upcoming 2023 season. The Red Foxes are set to play 16 regular season games with eight of them being non-conference games.

The Red Foxes will kick off their season with a home opener on Saturday, Feb. 18 hosting Bucknell.  The Red Foxes have an overall record of 4-1 against the Bison, with their last matchup being in 2018. That same week the Red Foxes will head over to play Patriot League rival Army West Point, who finished second in their conference with an overall record of 12-6, losing only two out of seven conference games and falling to Navy in the conference semifinals.  Marist has lost four out of five matchups against the Black Knights, including last year's 19-9 loss at Tenney Stadium.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Red Foxes will play Merrimack for the second consecutive year but this time they'll welcome them to Tenney Stadium. Last year's intense matchup at Merrimack resulted in a 16-15 victory for the Red Foxes after heading to overtime.  With a quick turnaround, the Red Foxes will play at Hofstra on Wednesday, March 1. The Pride had their season end in the CAA Semifinals against the soon-to-be conference champions, Drexel Dragons. Otherwise the team went 9-8 on the year, with one of its wins being a 16-9 against the Red Foxes on March 11. Marist has yet to beat Hofstra in any of the four times they've met starting in 2013.

The March schedule continues with Marist hosting both Temple and Binghamton. Temple will play at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday, March 8. The two teams had one prior meetup in 2007 and have not played again since then. For the past three years, the Owls have not gone below .500  with last year's being .647 after an 11-6 overall record.  The team finished second in its conference but fell 11-10 in the semifinals to the No. 3 seed Vanderbilt. This will be the Red Foxes last home game before they head on the road for five consecutive games.

The non-conference slate will conclude with two games down south at Campbell University and Coastal Carolina, this will be the first time in program history that Marist matches up against either team. Last season Campbell had a strong season earning a 10-7 overall record, going 7-2 conference. Coastal Carolina went 6-11 and fell to Jacksonville in the first round of the ASUN Tournament.

Marist will open up conference play at Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 25.  Quinnipiac finished its season with a 6-10 overall record and 2-6 in MAAC play. The next MAAC opponents will be conference rivals Siena (Wednesday, March 29) and Fairfield (Saturday, April 1).  Both teams were strong opponents this past year, especially Fairfield who were the MAAC champions for the fourth year in a row. The Stags were defeated 12-11 in a close matchup with Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Red Foxes will return home on Wednesday, April 5 for their next three games against Manhattan, Niagara, and Mount St. Mary's. Manhattan clinched the sixth and final spot in the 2022 MAAC Tournament, upsetting the No. 3 seed Niagara in the first round but losing to No. 1 seed Monmouth in the semifinals. Niagara had a solid season going 5-3 in conference play and 9-9 overall. The Red Foxes will host Mount St. Mary's for the first time since they've joined the MAAC this past Spring.  The Mountaineers had a convincing last season earning an NEC championship and moving on to the first round of the NCAA Tournament where they were defeated by No. 6 Loyola.

The Red Foxes will head up to Buffalo for their last away game of the regular season to play Canisius on Wednesday, April 19.  Marist will look for revenge against the Golden Griffins this year after the two teams went into overtime in their last hard-fought matchup when Canisius claimed the victory.

To close out the regular season, the Red Foxes will welcome Iona to Tenney Stadium.  The Red Foxes are looking to finish their season out with a win just as they did last year with a 15-12 victory over the Gaels. Iona ended with a 9-7 overall record, 2-6 in conference play.

The MAAC Championship will take place from April 30- May 7. Six teams will qualify for this year's championship. The opening round will be hosted by the third and fourth seeds.  The semifinal and final will be determined by the highest seed.  Marist will be looking to contend for the 2023 MAAC Championship.
