SAN DIEGO, California - After dropping their first two games on Saturday, the Marist women's water polo team bounced back to win both games at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, California on Sunday.
In game one, Marist defeated Pomona-Pitzer by a score of 14-5 for their second straight victory over the Sagehens. The two teams squared off last weekend at the Bruno Classic in Rhode Island in a game that Marist also won, 12-5. This time around, Marist took a 7-4 lead into halftime after two first half goals from
Ella Baumgarten,
Viktoria Orlova, and
Madeline Schultz. Marist continued the dominance in the second half, with eight total players scoring throughout the match. Orlova and Schultz each finished with a hat-trick to pace the Red Foxes to victory. The five goals allowed is the least goals allowed all season for Marist.Â
In the final game of the Triton Invitational, Marist took down Santa Clara University, 17-6 to end the weekend on a positive note.
Madeline Schultz paced the Red Foxes with 5 goals, including two fourth quarter goals to secure the victory for Marist. The Red Foxes were able to spread the ball around very well in their final match of the weekend as eleven different players found the back of the net. Seventeen goals is a season high for the Red Foxes, and the eleven goals allowed on Sunday is the fewest in a two-game stretch so far this season.Â
The Red Foxes are now 4-6 on the season and will look to ride their two game win-streak into the Santa Clara Invite next weekend (February 19-20). Their first game is set for 3:20 p.m. against Monterey Bay on Saturday in Santa Clara, California.
