TEMPE, AZ – Marist water polo split games on their first day of the ASU Invite. Marist defeated Azusa Saturday afternoon, 14-8. The Red Foxes were later defeated by ASU by a score of 17-3.
 

MARIST 14 | AZUSA 8

• Ella Baumgarten scored the first goal of the game in the first period at 7:39
• Azusa tied the game at two a piece with :15 seconds remaining in the first period.
• To start the second period, the Red Foxes would take the lead and hold onto it for the remainder of the game.
• Madeline Schultz led the Red Foxes with three goals.
• Shinae Connolly, Viktoria Orlova, Myriam Lizotte, Fallon Burnworth each had two goals.
• Marina Hyham recorded 13 saves and a .619 save percentage.

 

MARIST 3 | ARIZONA STATE 17

• ASU scored the first goal of the game in the first period at 6:31.
• Baumgarten quickly responded with a goal to tie the game at one a piece and then added another goal in the first period to take the lead.
• ASU offense began to pull away from the Red Foxes, going into half-time leading 8-2.
• Marist added another goal to their scoreboard to finish the game. ASU secured the victory by a score of 17-3.
• Baumgarten led the team with two goals.
• Claudia Lee also scored a goal.
