Softball Faces Saint Peter’s With Last MAAC Championship Berth at Stake

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team will close out the regular season on Monday with a doubleheader at Saint Peter's. First pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m., with the final berth in this week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Championship at stake.

What It Means
  • Five teams have clinched berths in the MAAC Championship: Canisius (host), Fairfield, Siena, Rider, and Iona.
  • Marist (9-9 MAAC) and Saint Peter's (7-11 MAAC) are the final two contenders for the last remaining berth.
  • Marist needs one win in Monday's doubleheader to advance to the championship, which will start on Wednesday. Saint Peter's needs a sweep to clinch a berth.

About Marist
  • The Red Foxes last played on Wednesday, when they split a doubleheader with Lafayette on Senior Day. Caroline Baratta became the program's all-time hits leader in game one, and Alyssa Yarem's walk-off homer gave the Red Foxes a 15-13 win in 11 innings in game two.
  • Marist last played conferences games on Sunday, May 1, when Rider took both ends of a doubleheader at Gartland Field.
  • In conference games this season, the Red Foxes have the MAAC's top two in RBIs in Miah McDonald (20) and Caroline Baratta (17), as well as the conference's leader in runs scored, Shea Walsh (21).
  • In 2021, Marist went 4-0 against Saint Peter's. However, in the second of the teams' two doubleheaders on May 3, the Red Foxes won both games by two runs via Kaley Coltrain home runs in Marist's last at-bat.

About Saint Peter's
  • Saint Peter's has highest overall (22) and MAAC (seven) win totals in 15 years.
  • The Peacocks are coming off a home doubleheader sweep of Iona on Senior Day in which they allowed just one run, as they prevailed by scored of 3-1 and 2-0.
  • Saint Peter's is 4-2 in its last six games.
  • Cara McNulty leads the Peacocks in batting average (.333), home runs (four), and RBIs (32).
