POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Junior infield Alyssa Grupp of the Marist softball team was named Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Thursday.
 
Last season, Grupp was a Second Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Championship Team selection. She hit .342 with one home run, 15 RBIs, and 20 runs scored. She closed the season on a 12-game hitting streak, going 19-for-39 (.487) in that stretch. Grupp saw time primarily at second base and in left field, finishing the season with a .990 fielding percentage in 102 chances.
 
As a team, Marist was picked to second in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
 
The Red Foxes open their season next weekend with tournament action at Winthrop. Marist will play five games in three days, starting with two games on Friday, Feb. 17 against North Carolina A&T and Winthrop.
 
The 2023 MAAC Softball Championship is a six-team double elimination tournament taking place between May 10-14, 2023. The championship will be hosted by the highest seed.
