Softball Ready for South Florida Showdown

Red Foxes To Play Five Games in Tournament Friday Through Sunday

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team returns to action on Friday morning as the Red Foxes start play in the South Florida Showdown. The Red Foxes will play five games between Friday and Sunday in their final in-season tournament.

  • Friday, March 17: vs. Iowa, 9 a.m.
  • Friday, March 17: vs. #11/9 Texas, 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 18: vs. Lehigh, 9 a.m.
  • Saturday, March 18: at South Florida, 11:30 a.m. (ESPN+)
  • Sunday, March 19: vs. Lehigh, 10 a.m.
 
Marist News
  • This is the Red Foxes' second straight tournament hosted by South Florida. The Red Foxes competed in the USF Tournament last week and went 0-5, with the last four games all decided by two runs.
  • Kiley Myers was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week after posting an 0.56 ERA in her starts against Saint Francis and Florida Gulf Coast.
  • Myers leads the Red Foxes in ERA (2.39), WHIP (1.17), and opponents' batting average against (.227). Calista Phippen has team highs in wins (four), innings pitched (53), and strikeouts (51)
  • Haley Ahr leads Marist in batting average (.375), OPS (.991), RBIs (22), hits (27), doubles (eight), on-base percentage (.444), and slugging percentage (.547). Ahr led the Red Foxes with six RBIs in the USF Tournament.
  • Ahr is one of three Red Foxes hitting over .300. She is joined by Sam Freeland (.324) and Peyton Pusey (.306).
 
Opponents
  • Iowa
    • The Hawkeyes are 16-9 overall.
    • Nia Carter is hitting a team-best .524 with a 1.179 OPS and six stolen bases.
    • Jalen Carter (0.99), Breanna Vazquez (1.25), and Denali Loecker (1.69) all have earned run averages under 2.00.
    • This is the third meeting between the teams all-time. The Hawkeyes won two games against the Red Foxes in 2007.
  • Texas
    • The Longhorns are the first nationally-ranked opponent Marist will face this season.
    • Texas is 22-4-1 on the season, with a 5-3-1 mark against nationally-ranked teams.
    • Four Texas hitters are batting over .400, and three have over 20 RBIs.
    • Texas has a team ERA of 1.95. All four of the Longhorns' pitchers have tossed over 35 innings, and three have an ERA under 2.00.
    • Marist is 0-1 against Texas all-time. This is the first meeting between the teams since 2012.
  • Lehigh
    • The Mountain Hawks are 16-3 this season, including a win over nationally-ranked Alabama.
    • Emily Cimino has team highs of six home runs and 24 driven in.
    • Chloe Hess has an 0.58 ERA in 48 innings, and Maria Urban has an 0.86 ERA in 24.1 innings.
    • Marist is 5-8 against Lehigh all-time. This is the first meeting between the teams since 2016.
  • South Florida
    • South Florida is 16-13 this season.
    • Emilee Hanlon leads the team in batting average (.339), on-base percentage (.391), and stolen bases (11).
    • Payton Dixon leads the team with 81 innings pitched, 62 strikeouts, 10 wins, and two saves. She has a 1.47 ERA.
    • Marist is 0-3 against South Florida all-time, including a 2-0 loss last week.
