SANTA BARBARA, California- The Marist water polo team opened the season with two matches at the UCSB Winter Invitational, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes split the two matches of the day, defeating Whittier and falling to UCLA.

 

Match One Vs Whittier

• The Red Foxes dominated the first quarter, scoring eight goals and led 8-0.
• The Red Foxes added nine more goals in the second quarter and took a 17-1 lead into the half.
• The Red Foxes scored seven more goals in the last two quarters and maintained the lead.
• The Red Foxes defeated the Poets 24-3 in the first match of the Invitational.
• Rachel Dean scored four goals in the win against the Poets.
• Two Red Foxes tallied a hat trick in the win:

  • Emily Scheerer
• Five Red Foxes scored a pair of goals in the win over the Poets.

  

Match Two Vs #3 UCLA

• The Red Foxes fell behind early, trailing 6-0 in the first quarter.
• The Red Foxes scored three goals in the second quarter but was equalized by the Bruins with three goals of their own.
  • The Red Foxes trailed 9-3 going into halftime.
• The Red Foxes scored three goals in the final two frames of the match.
• The Red Foxes fell to UCLA 19-6 in the final match of day one.
