POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist head football coach Mike Willis has announced two more hires to his initial coaching staff. Vince DiMonte has joined the staff as outside linebackers coach, and Matt Herrmann will serve as wide receivers coach.
Â
"I'm excited to have Vince DiMonte at Marist. Vince is a talented all-around football coach who we considered for positions on both sides of the ball; it was most important that we got Vince on our team and figured out his "fit" later. Vince has a reputation as a sharp recruiter, diligent worker, and great teacher. He received first class training from the staff at Springfield College, and he has hit the ground running at Marist. Vince's intangibles have already stood out. He is a natural leader who has already made an impact on the culture of our program. I know our outside linebackers and our whole team will benefit from Vince's presence."Â
Â
"I'm excited to have Matt Herrmann at Marist. Matt is a talented young coach who I really enjoyed working with at Princeton. It was evident from day one that his aptitude was off the charts; he had as much responsibility early in his career as any young coach has ever had with me. I feel fortunate to reunite with him. His attention to detail and talent are evident in all that he does. He has tremendous experience coaching wide receivers at the Power Five and FBS level. His mentorship style resonates with our players. He will be an asset to our staff as both a developer of wide receivers and a recruiter!"
Â
DiMonte coached the last two years at Springfield College. He coached the Pride's wide receivers in the 2023 season, and he was fullbacks coach in 2022. In these two seasons, Springfield went 18-5 with two trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, including a first-round victory in 2022.
Â
DiMonte played collegiately at St. John Fisher as a linebacker. A three-year letterman and two-year captain, he helped the program increase its win total every season. DiMonte was a member of the program's Unity Council.
Â
"I'm extremely grateful to Coach Willis and Coach Horan for giving me the opportunity to join this staff," DiMonte said. "This was a no-brainer for me. To take a job where I would learn from some of the best coaches in college football and coach up some of the best players in the Pioneer Football League was something I couldn't pass up. I'm fired up to be a part of the next era of Marist Football!"
Â
In the 2023 season, Herrmann was an offensive graduate assistant/assistant wide receivers coach at Temple University, where he also had special teams responsibilities. The Owls ranked fifth in the Football Bowl Subdivision in passing yards per game, and were the only team in the American Athletic Conference with four different players having 100-yard receiving games.
Â
In the spring of 2023, Herrmann was interim running backs/ offensive quality control coach at Princeton. Herrmann was an offensive graduate assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, from the 2020-22 seasons. He assisted with the quarterbacks and wide receivers in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, and coached tight ends and wide receivers in 2022.
Â
"Ever since I met Coach Willis, I knew he was going to be an amazing head coach some day, so when he told me he was the new head coach at Marist College and wanted me to join him on staff, I was thrilled," Herrmann said. "The more I did my research, I quickly came to realize, as Coach Willis says, it's why not Marist? The College and town have been amazing since I arrived and I'm looking forward to winning a lot of games and bringing in student-athletes who want to achieve at the highest level in the classroom and on the field here at Marist. I can't want to coach this team and can't wait to bring in the brightest athletes from the DMV, and the entire country to help us win championships here at Marist."
Â
Additionally, Jacob Hallenbeck, Kyle Suta, and Ian Grant have returned to the staff from last season. Hallenbeck remains the tight ends coach. Suta, who coached running backs last season, has moved to cornerbacks coach. Grant returns as assistant offensive line coach.
