Track & Field Begins Indoor Slate With Fastrack Season Opener

Red Foxes Head to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex For First Race

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Marist men's and women's track & field teams travel to Staten Island, New York for the Fastrack Season Opener meet at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
 
READY, SET, GO
  • The Marist track and field teams open the season at the Fastrack Season Opener, before going on a break until its next race at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invite held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Jan. 10
  • The Red Foxes named its captains for the indoor season on Thursday, Dec. 5.
  • The captains for this season are Easton Eberwein, Amari Mathis, Stephania Granados, and Nina Florio.
  • The 2024-25 MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll was announced on Monday, Dec. 2, as the men's team was picked to finish eighth in the conference, while the women's team was picked to finish tied for ninth.
WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT AT FASTRACK
  • The last time the Marist women's track team ran at the Fastrack Season Opener was Dec. 6, 2019 Senior captain
  • Denise Grohn led the team with a personal-best performance in the 3000m to take second overall and qualify for the ECAC Championships in March.
  • Grohn ran a time of 9:53.70 in the 3000m to just narrowly finish in second place. Her time beat her previous best of 9:55.31 from the 2018 outdoor season.
  • Jill Laliberte ran 5:22.10 in the mile to finish in second place as well.
  • Graduate student captain Emily Burns also placed in the 3000m, crossing the line in 10:27.92 for sixth.
  • Freshman Juliana Fame took fifth in the 800m in her first collegiate race. She ran a time of 2:23.80
MEN'S LAST TIME OUT AT FASTRACK
  • The last time the Marist men's track team ran at the Fastrack Season Opener was Dec. 6, 2019
  • Sophomore Jeremy Mooney ran a personal best in the 60m to just miss the Marist program record.
  • Mooney ran a time of 7.15 in the 60m, just missing the Marist record of 7.13 set by Jesse Aprile in 2012.
  • Connor St. Germain earned runner-up honors in the 800m with a strong time of 1:57.61.
  • Freshman Daniel Czop ran a lifetime best in the 5000m with a mark of 15:51.40 for sixth place.
  • James Moehringer placed eighth in the 3000m in 8:55.09, while Aidan Sweeney was right behind him at 10th with a PR of 8:58.26.

  • The teams take a holiday break and return to action at St. Thomas Aquinas Invite on Jan. 10
  • The meet will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
