POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Senior forward
Zaria Shazer of the Marist women's basketball team was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday morning, as Shazer was named to the All-MAAC Third Team.
This is Shazer's second time being named to one of the three All-MAAC teams, as she earned All-MAAC Second Team honors as a junior last season.
In 28 games this season, Shazer averaged 14.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Her 14.1 points per game ranked third in the MAAC, while her career-high 8.4 rebounds per game slots her second in the conference. Of her 19 career double-doubles, 10 have come in this season alone. She ranks third in the MAAC in free throw attempts (130) and third in makes (91).
Shazer was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday, Jan. 15. In a 2-0 weekend for the Red Foxes, Shazer averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field. She opened the weekend with 27 points and eight rebounds in Marist's victory over Rider. She followed that performance with 20 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the Red Foxes' thrilling one-point victory over Niagara on Jan. 13.
Shazer scored her 1,000th career point against Drexel on Dec. 6, becoming the 28th player in program history to accomplish the feat and first since Alana Gilmer (2019-2020).
