POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Sophomore middle blocker
Sarah Bumstead of the Marist University volleyball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Bumstead has been excellent in the classroom and emerging on the floor for the Red Foxes. She is a Chemistry major who was named to the Dean's List following both semesters in her freshman year, and she was named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll. Last season, she set career highs of 13 kills in a match twice, and five blocks in a match twice. Last weekend, she opened MAAC play by hitting .600 with totals of 14 kills and six blocks in matches against Rider and Saint Peter's.
On the season, Bumstead is tied for the team lead with 18 blocks.
Marist volleyball has currently won two straight, and is 2-1 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes return to action on Friday night at McCann Arena against Manhattan. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
