Water Polo Upsets #20 Pacific On First Day Of Bronco Invite

Red Foxes Sweep Day One Of Bronco Invite

SANTA CLARA, California- The Marist water polo team swept the first day of competition at the Bronco Invite, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes upset 20th ranked Pacific 18-16 in the first match of the afternoon. To finish the first day of competition, the Red Foxes defeated CSUN in a thrilling match 10-9.

The Red Foxes improved to 5-4 overall and remain 2-0 in MAAC play.

 
Match One Vs 20 Pacific
  • The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter against Pacific.
  • In the second quarter, the Red Foxes were outscored 5-4 against Pacific but took a two-goal lead into halftime.
    • The Red Foxes led 10-8 after two quarters of play.
  • The Red Foxes continued their scoring in the third quarter, outscoring Pacific 5-3 in the quarter. The Red Foxes led 15-11 against the 20th ranked team heading into the final frame.
  • Pacific outscored the Red Foxes 5-3 in the final quarter, but the Red Foxes triumphed 18-16.

  • Emily Scheerer led the Red Foxes in the win with six goals, a career-high.

Match Two Vs CSUN
  • The Red Foxes scored three goals in the first quarter but were outscored by CSUN with four. The Red Foxes trailed 4-3 after one quarter of play.

  • A Victoria Padilla goal in the fourth quarter with four minutes left in the match proved to be the game-winner. The Red Foxes defeated CSUN 10-9 for their second consecutive win of the day.
