Water Polo Set For Four Matches At Convergence Tournament

Red Foxes Enter The Tournament Ranked #21 Nationally

Claremont, CA – The Marist water polo team is set to travel to California for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday. The #21 ranked Red Foxes will take on CUI, Chapman, Santa Clara, and USC, who are tied for #1 ranked nationally.

The Red Foxes enter the Convergence tournament at 6-5 overall, with a 2-0 conference record.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Red Foxes won three out of four at the Bronco Invitational, defeating #20 University of the Pacific.
    • Game one: 18-16 win vs #20 University of the Pacific.
    • Game two: 10-9 win over #22 CSUN.
      • Inés Sánchez saved 18 shots and Rachel Dean scored a hat trick.
    • Game three: 8-11 loss to #20 San Jose State University
      • Seven different Red Foxes scored, including two from Scheerer and Dean.
    • Game four: 18-9 win against California State University Monterey Bay.

  • CUI is 1-9 on the year and 0-2 in conference, currently on a four game losing streak.
  • The Golden Eagles have given up 15 or more goals in six of their ten games.

  • Chapman is 1-4 overall, losing their last four games.
  • The Panthers went 0-2 at the Fresno Pacific Tournament, losing 11-12 to the hosts and 10-17 to CSU Monterey Bay.

    • Alyssa Fricker has 24 goals and five assists in five games, recording nearly six points per game.
  
Scouting Santa Clara
  • Santa Clara enters the weekend at 4-4, splitting their four games as the hosts of the Bronco Invitational.
  • The Broncos beat CSU Monterey Bay 11-10 and UC Merced 14-8, while dropping to CSUN 10-14 and Brown 5-16.
  • Player to watch:
    • Haley Tassell has started all eight games in goal, giving up only 12.28 goals per game and saving 78 shots.
  
Scouting #1 USC
  • The Trojans come in at 14-1, with their first lost being to fellow #1 ranked team Stanford 6-10.
  • USC has beaten seven top-10 opponents, and eight total ranked with a goal differential of +47.

    • Emily Ausmus has 81 points in 15 games, scoring 52 goals on 78 shots and assisting 29 goals.
