CLAREMONT, California- The Marist water polo team concluded a successful weekend at the Convergence Tournament, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, defeating Santa Clara 16-8.
Rachel Dean scored a season-high five goals in the Red Foxes win against Santa Clara.
The Red Foxes fell in the Convergence Tournament finale against #1 USC 19-10.
The Red Foxes moved to 9-6 overall on the 2025 season.
- First Quarter:
- The Red Foxes started the match with two goals in the first two minutes of the match. Rachel Dean and Kendell De Beer netted the goals for the Red Foxes, which gave the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead.
- Santa Clara would score a goal, cutting into the Red Foxes lead 2-1.
- The Red Foxes countered with three goals to end the quarter and took a 5-1 lead into the second frame. Rachel Dean scored a first quarter hat trick with two more goals in the final minutes of the quarter.
- Second Quarter:
- With two early goals from Samantha Bentley and Elaia Berecibar, the Red Foxes extended their lead 7-1 to begin the quarter.
- Santa Clara would score a goal to end the quarter, but the Red Foxes took a 7-2 lead into the half.
- Third Quarter:
- Santa Clara started the scoring with a goal in the first minute of play. The Red Foxes still led 7-3 after the goal.
- Margherita Pantani countered with a goal two minutes later, which extended the Red Foxes lead 8-3.
- Santa Clara outscored the Red Foxes 4-3 the rest of the quarter, as the Red Foxes still held a 11-7 lead into the final quarter.
- Fourth Quarter:
- The Red Foxes scored five goals in the final frame and limited Santa Clara to one goal to finish the match. Alyssa Mullane netted two goals, giving her a hat trick in the match.
- The Red Foxes won their fourth-straight match, defeating Santa Clara 16-8.
- Rachel Dean led the Red Foxes with a season-high five goals in the win.
- Paige Naegle and Alyssa Mullane scored a hat trick apiece in the win.
- Inés Sánchez recorded a dominant 17 saves in the win, which was good for a .680 save percentage.
