POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist University head football coach
Mike Willis has announced the hiring of Robbie Mangas as tight ends coach.
Â
Mangas comes to Marist from the University at Buffalo, where we worked on the Bulls' staff for the past two years after concluding his playing career there. He was a four-year member of Dartmouth's football program prior to that.
"I am excited to add Robbie Mangas to our staff," Willis said. "Robbie has been a team captain at the FBS and FCS level. I admired him as a player at Dartmouth and competed against him for championships in the Ivy League. He has been mentored by some of the finest coaches and men in college football. It's rare to find a young coach as polished and prepared to coach Division I tight ends as Robbie; his interview was one of the most impressive I've conducted during my career. Robbie also brings recruiting prowess in key geographic areas to our staff. Robbie will make Marist better every day!"
Â
Following the conclusion of his playing career in 2022, Mangas began coaching as a student assistant at Buffalo in the spring of 2023. During the 2023 season, he served as an offensive analyst and quality control coach with the Bulls. This past season, Mangas was a graduate assistant on the offensive side of the ball, as he assisted with preparation and drills for Buffalo's wide receivers.
Â
"I am beyond excited to join the Marist football program," Mangas said. "I'm thankful to Coach Willis for offering me this opportunity, and I can't wait to start working with our tight end group, contribute to the offensive staff, and learn from Coach Willis, Coach Weyl, and the rest of the coaching staff. I also want to thank everyone at Buffalo—the community, the football program, and the athletic department—for all the opportunities and relationships that have prepared me for this next step. I'm looking forward to getting started and helping this program grow and succeed."
Â
Mangas enjoyed a five-year collegiate playing career as a tight end. He played at Dartmouth from 2018-21, and the Big Green went 27-3 with two Ivy League championships in their three seasons of action, with the 2020 campaign canceled due to Covid-19. In 2021, Mangas was named Honorable Mention All-Ivy while serving as team captain. At Dartmouth, Mangas made 10 career starts while catching 21 passes for 424 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
Mangas concluded his playing career at Buffalo in the 2022 season. He was named a game captain five times, and caught 16 passes for 141 yards. The Bulls defeated Georgia Southern to win the Camellia Bowl for its third bowl win in program history.
Â
Mangas earned his Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth in the fall of 2021. He majored in Government, and he won the Reggie Williams Award for Leadership in 2021. He earned his Master of Education, Educational Leadership, and Policy from Buffalo in the spring of 2023. There, he was named to the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Â
The Marist football program is heading into its second season under Willis' leadership in 2025.
