The Marist Water Polo Team Improves To 8-3 On The Season

The Red Foxes Go 3-1 At The Bronco Invitational

SANTA CLARA, CA – The Marist Water Polo went back west to play four matches at the Bronco Invitational. Over the weekend they went 3-1 beating CSUN, Santa Clara University, and Pomona-Pitzer while losing to San Jose State University.
 
Kendall De Beer had a big first game with four goals, two assists, and one steal but the Red Foxes would lose to San Jose State University 15-14 in triple overtime.
 
De Beer once again led the scoring with three goals and an assist in match two, but Paige Naegle also netted three goals in the match and Marist would beat CSUN 16-11.
 
De Beer continues her big weekend with four goals and three assists in match three. Lela McCarroll also had a big game with three goals in route to an 18-10 win over Santa Clara.
 
Jolanta Szentpali and Lela McCarroll led the team in scoring with three goals and two assists a piece in route to a 15-9 win over Pomona-Pitzer.

 
MATCH ONE VS SJSU
  • The Red Foxes would fall behind early, going down 5-3 in the first quarter of the match.
  • In the second quarter they would fight hard and match SJSU in goals with three. They would still trail 8-6 going into halftime.
  • After halftime, the Red Foxes would continue to fight and score four goals in the third quarter, tying the match 10-10.
  • In the fourth quarter both teams went goal for goal keeping the game tied at 13 at the end of regulation
  • In the first overtime Marist would fall behind by a goal, now trailing 15-14.
  • The second overtime both teams would score one goal a piece and in the third overtime neither team would score and SJSU would win 15-14.
 
MATCH TWO VS CSUN
  • The Red Foxes found some momentum early in the first quarter, scoring five goals to go up 5-2.
  • The second quarter would see a lot of the same with Marist putting their foot on the gas to go up 10-4 going into halftime.
  • After the half CSUN would start to find some momentum outscoring the Red Foxes 3-2 in the quarter but Marist would still lead 12-7.
  • In the fourth quarter both teams kept the scoring up with four goals a piece and Marist would prevail and win 16-11.
 
MATCH THREE VS SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY
  • The Red Foxes took a big lead early, scoring seven goals in the first quarter to go up 7-2.
  • They kept their momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Santa Clara 4-2, now leading 11-4 going into halftime.
  • After the half Santa Clara started to pick things up and outscored the Red Foxes 4-3, but Marist would still lead 15-7.
  • In the fourth quarter Marist finished things off, scoring four goals to win the match 18-10.
 
MATCH FOUR VS POMONA-PITZER
  • In the first quarter of the match the Red Foxes outscored the Sagehens 2-1.
  • Pomona-Pitzer picked up the momentum in the second quarter with four goals to Marist's two. The Sagehens would lead 5-4 going into halftime.
  • After halftime the Red Foxes would fight back, scoring five goals to tie the game 9-9.
  • In the fourth quarter Marist would shift the momentum and shut out Pomona-Pitzer 6-0 and win the match 15-9.

  • The Red Foxes will return home for their home opener to face Iona and Salem University, on Saturday Feb.21.
