POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Marist water polo team faced off against Iona University and Salem University, Saturday, for their home opener and senior night where they would take both games including a big win on senior night.
Paige Naegle led the Red Foxes with three goals and two steals while
Ines Sanchez had a great game in goal saving 16 of 25 shots for a save percentage of 64% in a Marist 12-9 win over Iona.
Game two
Anita Radaelli led the team with two goals and two assists while 11 different Red Foxes scored a goal including goalie Ines Sanchez for her first career goal on senior night. The Red Foxes won game two 16-8.
- In the first quarter both teams were fighting, going goal for goal but Marist would take a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
- The Red Foxes kept the momentum on their side and scored three goals to lead 7-5 going into halftime.
- Coming out of halftime Marist kept things going but Iona wouldn't let them get far keeping it a two-goal game, 10-8 Marist.
- The Red Foxes would pull ahead in the fourth quarter scoring two goals to the Gaels one to win 12-9.
- The Red Foxes would get out to an early lead, scoring four goals and holding the Tigers to only two, making it 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.
- Marist kept the momentum going, scoring three more goals to make it 7-3 going into halftime.
- After the half the Red Foxes would storm ahead and score six goals to go up by a score of 13-7.
- Marist kept it going in the fourth to finish off the match by a final score of 16-8.
- The Red Foxes head to Cambridge, MA, for two matches on March 1st where they will rematch against Wagner and face off against Harvard.
