Ava Metzger of the Marist University softball team was named Jersey Mike's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Metzger earned the award for the second straight week.
In Marist's 2-0 win over Fairfield to open MAAC play on Sunday, Metzger tossed a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. She retired eight straight batters between the first and fourth innings. Metzger struck out the side in the third, and took a no-hitter into the fourth. Fairfield only had one runner reach second base the entire contest, and no one got as far as third. The opposition hit .083 against Metzger in her only outing of the week.

Marist (8-12 overall, 2-0 MAAC) is set to open its home schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Niagara. The Red Foxes and Purple Eagles are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch on both days is set for noon.
