POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Sunday. The Red Foxes and Stags will play a doubleheader at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut starting at 1 p.m.
Marist and Fairfield were picked first and second, respectively, in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Marist played at the Garnet & Black Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
- The Red Foxes went 1-4, but their victory was against the host Gamecocks, who were ranked #22 in the country. It was Marist's first victory against a ranked opponent in program history.
- Ava Metzger was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a five-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn the victory against South Carolina.
- Sienna Kunze was named MAAC Player of the Week after belting a two-run homer in the win over South Carolina and hitting .444 on the week.
- Annabelle Geiser is hitting a team-best .370. She also leads the Red Foxes in runs scored (12) and on -base percentage (.517).
- Isabella Manory and Samantha Rogers are tied for the team lead with two home runs. Manory leads the team in OPS (.980) and Rogers is tops on the team with 13 RBIs.
- Stella Blanchard leads the pitching staff in wins (three), ERA (3.17), innings pitched (35.1) and strikeouts (27).
- Ava Armuth leads the Stags in batting average (.344) and runs scored (eight).
- Anna Paravati and Quinn McGonigle are tied for the team lead with six RBIs.
- Alyssa Weinberg leads the Stags' pitching staff with two wins, 28.1 innings pitched, and 22 strikeouts.
- Marist opens its home schedule with a three-game MAAC series against Niagara next weekend.
- The Red Foxes and Purple Eagles are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday.
- First pitch both days is scheduled for noon.
