Softball Opens Home Schedule with Series vs. Niagara

Red Foxes Looking to Build on 2-0 MAAC Record

POUGHKEEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team opens its home schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Niagara.
 
The Red Foxes and Purple Eagles are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon at Gartland Field.

Last Time Out
  • Marist opened MAAC play a two-game sweep of Fairfield last Sunday.
  • The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 2-0 and 4-0, as Ava Metzger (two-hitter) and Stella Blanchard (one-hitter) each tossed shutouts while combining for 17 strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
  • Haley Ahr had two hits in each game, and she drove in both runs in Marist's game one victory.
  • Ahr (game one) and Isabella Manory (game two) each homered.
 
Awards
  • Following her two-hitter with 12 strikeouts at Fairfield, Metzger was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
  • This was the second straight week Metzger earned this honor. The previous week, she recorded a complete game win with eight strikeouts in the Red Foxes' victory at nationally-ranked South Carolina.
  • Marist has now won MAAC weekly awards through the first five weeks of the season.
