POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Water Polo hosted the Marist Invitational where they went 2-0 beating Villanova and Wagner to win their eighth and ninth straight matches. They are now 21-4 on the season.
Jolanta Szentpali and
Kendell De Beer led the Red Foxes to a hard-fought win in the first match, with three goals apiece to beat Villanova 14-13.
Kendell De Beer led the Red Foxes with four games in the second match.
Lela McCarroll and
Samantha Bentley both found the back of the net twice for two goals a piece in route to beating Wagner 11-9.
- In the first quarter Marist took an early 7-5 lead, on the back of the offense.
- In the second quarter both teams fought to score two goals apiece, making the score 9-7.
- After halftime the Red Foxes picked up the momentum, outscoring the Wildcats three goals to two, making the score 12-9.
- Villanova attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter but Marist would fend them off the win the match by a final score of 14-13.
- The Red Foxes outscored the Seahawks, to take a 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
- In the second quarter Marist kept the momentum going scoring four more goals to lead 6-3 at halftime.
- After the half the Red Foxes stayed hot, outscoring the Seahawks 2-1 to make the score 8-4.
- In the fourth quarter Marist held off Wagner to win by a final score of 11-9.
- The Red Foxes head back on the road to face Siena Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET.
