Marist Water Polo Won All Four Games At The Convergence Invitational

The Red Foxes Dominated On The Offensive Side Of The Ball

POMONA, California – Marist Water Polo had a strong weekend in California going 4-0. On Friday they defeated Biola, 10-5, and La Verne, 26-5. On Saturday they beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 19-10, and CBU 13-5. The Red Foxes improved to 16-4 on the season.
 
In the first match Kendell De Beer led the team with three goals, one assist, and one steal. Samantha Bentley also netted two goals in the match.
 
The second match, Marist caught fire and scored 26 goals. Paige Naegle led the scoring with four goals, two assists, and two steals.
 
Ines Sanchez recorded 15 saves on 25 shots for a save percentage of 60% while also recording one steal, in match three.
 
In the fourth match, Emily Scheerer scored three goals in the match and Naegle also scored another three goals and a steal.
 
MATCH ONE VS BIOLA
  • Biola took an early lead in the first quarter, outscoring Marist three goals to two.
  • The Red Foxes flipped the script in the second quarter, scoring three goals while only letting up one, making it 5-4 Marist.
  • After the half Marist kept things going, outscoring Biola 2-1 to make the score 7-5.
  • Marist closed it out in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals and shutting out Biola. The Red Foxes secured a 10-5 win.
MATCH TWO VS UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE
  • The Red Foxes quickly got the offense going, scoring nine goals and shutting out La Verne in the first quarter.
  • Going into halftime, Marist kept the momentum going by outscoring La Verne 7-2, making the score 16-2.
  • After the half Marist kept it up and scored another five goals to make it 21-3.
  • The Red Foxes finished things off in the fourth quarter, winning the match by a score of 26-5.
MATCH THREE VS CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
  • Marist got in front early outscoring the Otters 6-2 in the first quarter.
  • The second quarter was back and forth, with both teams scoring four goals to make the score 10-6.
  • After halftime the Red Foxes regained their momentum, outscoring the Otters 6-3 to make the overall score 16-9.
  • In the fourth quarter Marist scored another three goals to win the match by a score of 19-10.
MATCH FOUR VS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
  • The Red Foxes took an early lead, scoring four goals to CBU's one in the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter they kept up their momentum with another four goals to make the score 8-2.
  • After half the Marist offense only scored two goals but they also only let up one to maintain the lead.
  • In the fourth quarter the Red Foxes would score another three goals and win the match by a final score of 13-5.

  • The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for a rematch against Iona on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
