November 5, 2000 -- The men's soccer team will play host Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), the Mid-Continent Conference Champion, on Saturday, November 11th, in the 2000 NCAA Play-In game. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Marist (11-9-0) advanced to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance with a 3-2 double overtime victory over No. 15 nationally ranked Fairfield University (14-3-2) in the championship game of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament.
Junior Sean Murphy (Hopewell Junction, NY) netted the game winning goal in the 111th minute of championship play on an assist by junior Joe Crespo (Bolton, CT).
Marist, seeded fourth, advanced to the MAAC Championship game with a 2-1 victory over tournament top seed Loyola College-MD (12-4-1), which was ranked as high as No. 21 nationally in the NSCAA Poll.
IUPUI (10-8-2), ranked fourth in the MCC Tournament, defeated No. 2 seed Oakland (10-6-1) 2-1 in triple overtime to capture the MCC Title and earned the NCAA Play-In berth.
