Sept. 10, 2001

Poughkeepsie, NY -- Marist College men's soccer player, Joe Crespo (Bolton, Conn.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office this afternoon. The award is the first of the season for Crespo who was also chosen as the MAAC Pre-Season Player of the Year.

Crespo, a graduate of Bolton High School, has opened the season on a torrid scoring pace, tallying three goals and an assist, in leading the Red Foxes to a 3-1 record thus far on the year. The 2000 MAAC Player of the Year, Crespo began the season with a two-goal effort in the Red Foxes' season opener, a 3-2 win over Hofstra. Crespo scored the game-tying goal, forcing overtime, and then tallied the game-winner in the 105th minute

Crespo was a key factor in Marist coming from behind for a 4-3 win over Albany, which found him tallying his second game-winning goal of the season, this time coming with just 4:09 left in regulation, breaking a 3-3 tie. He assisted on the overtime game winner in a 3-2 Marist win over Binghamton, setting up the goal in the 96th minute of action.

On the year Crespo has three goals and two assists, for a team-high eight points, which ranks him second in the league. The Red Foxes are 3-1 overall and will return to action Wednesday, September 12th, when they open MAAC play, at St. Peter's College.
