Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist College freshman Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) was named to the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Second Team at third base earlier today.
Rawson was the Red Foxes best hitter in 2002, leading the team with a .283 average with seven homeruns and 24 RBI's. She was also tops on the team with 19 runs scored and recorded a 2.48 ERA on the mound while striking out 83 batters in 124.1 innings pitched.
Six other members of the softball program also received honors today as they were named to the 2002 MAAC All-Academic Team. Senior's Jessica Shorey (Scarborough, ME) and Meghan Fuller (Waverly, NY) each received the award for the third consecutive year, while Junior's Amy Angus (Wolcott, CT) and Kathleen McEvily (White Plains, NY) were second time recipients. Junior Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) and sophomore Jaclyn Bertuglia (Babylon, NY) each were selected for the first time in their careers.
The Red Foxes have now had 23 players named to the MAAC All-Academic team in the past four seasons.
The team finished the 2002 season at 10-35-1 overall and 4-12 in the MAAC.
