Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Marist senior goalkeeper Mike Valenti was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Valenti is the third Red Fox to earn a weekly award this season and the first to receive the honor for defense.

Valenti was in net for all 180 minutes of Marist's two victories this past weekend: a 1-0 win at Fairfield on Friday and a 3-0 victory over host Iona on Sunday. He recorded two saves against Fairfield and four against Iona.

Valenti and the Red Foxes have recorded six consecutive shutout victories, shattering the old school record (three), set in 1976. During the course of the streak, Marist has jumped out to a 5-0 start in MAAC play, the best start for the Red Foxes since joining the conference in 1997.

Marist (8-4, 5-0 MAAC) is back in action Friday night, hosting conference foe Manhattan at Leonidoff Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
