Detelj Selected As MAAC Preseason Player Of The Year

EDISON, N.J.-Marist men's soccer standout Keith Detelj was named 2005 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Wednesday when the league released its preseason poll, voted on the league's 10 head coaches. Overall, the Red Foxes were picked second in the poll (80 points), second only to Loyola's 92 points.

Detelj, a native of Sayville, N.Y., was the 2004 MAAC Championship Most Valuable Player, led the league in scoring last season with 11 goals and three assists for 25 points. He was also named 2005 Most Outstanding Player of the MAAC Tournament in men's lacrosse after tallying five goals in the 10-6 win over Mt. St. Mary's in the championship game.

Detelj was joined on the MAAC preseason team by teammate Benjamin Castor (Richboro, Pa.), who won MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2004.

Fairfield University was picked third with 78 points, and Saint Peter's College was fourth with 76 points. Iona College placed fifth (46), followed by Canisius College (45), Rider University (43), Siena College (37), Niagara University (30) and Manhattan College (23).
