BALTIMORE, MD. - Rade Kokovic scored on a breakaway at 36:35 to send the Loyola men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Marist on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore. Sophomore goalkeeper Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) made five saves for Marist in his third straight start.
Kokovic took a pass from Jamie Darvill and beat del Rio to the lower left corner for the game's only goal. With the win Loyola improved to 5-8-1 overall and 4-1 in MAAC play.
Marist did not go without chances in the game as they forced Loyola keeper Justin Chelland to make six saves in the contest. Steve Fantuzzo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Anthony Graci (Kings Park, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes' offensive effort with two shots on goal apiece.
For the game the Greyhounds held a slim 14-10 advantage in shots, but shots on goal were even at six each. Marist held the advantage in corner kicks at 5-4, while fouls were 8-6 against the `Hounds.
With the loss Marist now stands at 5-7-1 overall on the season and 2-3-1 in the MAAC. The Foxes will be back in action on Friday night when they host MAAC leader Niagara at 7:00 p.m.
