EDISON, N.J. - The Marist Women's Softball team, who has won 11 straight games, had two members receive MAAC honors it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Chrystine McHugh (Port Ewen, N.Y.) has been named the MAAC Player of the Week, while Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
McHugh swung a red hot bat for the Foxes as she finished the week with a .435 batting average, going 10-23. McHugh picked up five extra base hits for the week, as she laced two doubles and slugged three home runs. In addition, she scored seven runs, drove in eight and worked out four walks.
Rigos won five of Marist's seven games during the week and earned saves in the other two victories. Rigos logged 35.2 innings pitched for the week and gave up just three earned runs on 19 hits. Rigos baffled opponents as they managed only a .158 batting average against her in seven appearances, as she fanned 27 batters and walked just nine.
The streaking Red Foxes have now won 11 consecutive games and have run their record to 18-5 on the season and 4-0 in MAAC play. Marist will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Stony Brook. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Gartland Athletic Field.
