POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist head softball coach Erin Layton has announced the signing of Katelyn Malloy to a National Letter of Intent. The Fair Haven, N.J. native who plays both the infield and outfield will join the Red Foxes as part of the class of 2011.
The 5' 5" Malloy will come to Poughkeepsie after an impressive high school career at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High. As a freshman, Malloy was named All-Division after hitting .478. As a sophomore she hit .410 and drove in 17 runs, before being named All-Division, Second Team All-Conference, Third Team All-Group and All-County last season as a junior. Malloy has also played for the Morris County Belles, where she hit .347 in the summer of 2005.
"We are extremely excited to have signed a player of Katelyn's abilty," said Layton. "She is very gifted in the outfield and her speed will help us both in the outfield and on the base paths. We will look for her to make an immediate impact in our program," Layton continued.
Malloy also excels in Field Hockey, as she helped her team to the New Jersey State Championship in 2006. She is also a standout student who has been named to the Honor Roll at Rumson-Fair Haven.
Marist, who finished the 2006 season with a 33-13 record and won the program's first ever MAAC Championship, will open play in the 2007 season on February 9 in DeLand, Fla. with a doubleheader against Iowa and host Stetson on the first day of the 2007 Dixie Classic.
