HEAD COACH MATT BRADY: Coach Brady is in his third season with the Red Foxes and sports a 54-35 career overall record (.607). Brady's squads are 34-20 (.630) in 54 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games and 2-3 (.400) in MAAC Tournament play. Brady is also a perfect 6-0 against Siena, his alma mater (1987).

WHITTINGTON AIMING FOR NCAA HISTORY: Marist senior guard Will Whittington (352) is just one 3-pointer away from tying Florida A&M's Terrence Woods for 19th in NCAA career 3-pointers. BRADY NAMED NABC DISTRICT 2 DIVISION I COACH OF THE YEAR: Marist head coach Matt Brady picked up his second Coach of the Year honor this week when the National Association of Basketball Coaches named him District 2 Division I Coach of the Year.

JORDAN NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT: Marist guard Jared Jordan was named to the MAAC's All-Tournament Team. In the two contests, he averaged 16 points and 8.5 assists.

TOUGH TO SWALLOW: Subpar field goal percentage defense has been the Red Foxes' downfall in each of their last two MAAC Tournament losses. Marist allowed Iona to shoot 58.9 percent from the field (33-56) in the 2006 MAAC semifinals and yielded 58.5 percent (31-53) in this season's loss to Siena.

STILL LOOKING: Both Marist basketball programs have come up empty in their five combined appearances in the NCAA Tournament and the National Invitation Tournaments. The Marist men have lost both NCAA Tournament appearances (1986 vs. Georgia Tech, 1987 vs. Pittsburgh) and their only NIT appearance (1996 vs. Long Island). The Marist women have fallen in the NCAA Tournament in 2004 to Oklahoma and in 2006 to Georgia. The Marist women, seeded 13th in the Dayton region of this year's NCAA Tournament, will face fourth-seeded Ohio State Saturday.

FIRST FOR THE BIG 12: Tuesday's game will be the first for the Marist program against a member of the Big 12 Conference.

BIG BENCH: The Red Foxes are 14-1 this season when their bench outscores or equals the opponent. The lone loss came in the MAAC semis when Marist received 16 points from its bench, while Siena got 14.

CONTINUING THE CLIMB: Marist senior Jared Jordan notched seven assists in the 86-78 loss to Siena to give him 801 for his career. Drafton Davis (1984-88) is the all-time leader with 804.

STILPHEN TO THE TOP: With his 3-5 shooting in the MAAC Tourney loss to Siena, Ryan Stilphen is now first in the MAAC in field goal percentage at 59.2 percent (126-213).

JORDAN, BRADY CLAIM TOP MAAC POSTSEASON HONORS: Marist coach Matt Brady and senior guard Will Whittington.

MAAC TOURNEY NOTES: With the 86-78 defeat at the hands of Siena in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals, it marked the fifth time that the Red Foxes have come up short against the Saints in the MAAC Tournament. Marist has never beaten Siena in its 10 years in the league. Marist has also never made the MAAC Championship game in its 10 years in the league. Marist has played 16 MAAC Tournament games, seven as the higher seed in their opening game. The Red Foxes are 4-3 in those contests. This was the 10th MAAC Tournament appearance for the Red Foxes and the first time Marist has been the top seed in the Tournament. Since joining the MAAC, the Red Foxes have played just one overtime game in tournament play. It was the Red Foxes' first MAAC Tournament game, a 74-73 overtime win over Fairfield in the first round at the Pepsi Arena. The top seed in the MAAC Tournament has won 11 of 26 tournaments. The second seed has won six, the third has won four, while five seeds have two crowns to show for their efforts. The seventh seed has won two titles, while the eighth-seed has won the tournament once. The six, nine and 10 seeds have never won a MAAC Tournament title.

CAREER-HIGH: Will Whittington set a personal best with 21 field goal attempts in the 86-78 loss to Siena.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Marist has recorded 21 double-doubles this season, with guard Jared Jordan accounting for 14 of them (including two triple-doubles) for the second-highest total in the league. James Smith has posted five and Wilfred Benjamin has two.

IRONMAN: Marist's Will Whittington is close behind and will participate in his 113th game Saturday, tying him for seventh.

HE DID IT AGAIN: For the third season in a row, Marist senior guard Will Whittington has broken Marist's single-season records for 3-pointers made and attempted in a season. His fifth 3-pointer and his ninth attempt in the 73-57 win over Manhattan gave him 104 and 255 for the season, respectively, eclipsing his mark last season by one in both categories. He now has 127 long-range shots made and 315 for the season.

FIRST ROUNDER?: Jared Jordan NBA Draft stock has soared recently, according to George Rodecker's website (www.roadiehoops.com). Jordan is currently 28th overall on Rodecker's list of the top 200 draft-eligible players and is the highest rated point guard in the draft according to the website.

JORDAN A COUSY FINALIST: Marist senior point guard Jared Jordan (Hartford, Conn.) has been named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford, an honor presented annually to the nation's top collegiate point guard. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday April 2.

POLLING: The Red Foxes are 24th in this week's edition of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.

BLOCK PARTY: Marist's James Smith recorded one block in the 98-88 overtime victory against Siena to give him 67 all-time for 10th on the school's all-time list.

RPI: Marist is among the nation's top 101 teams according to at least four RPI sites found on the internet. The Red Foxes are ranked 95th (Sportsline.com-3/12), 103rd (RealTimeRpi.com-3/12), 104th (KenPom.com-3/12) and 104th (RPIRatings.com-3/3).

JORDAN SCORING CLIP: Marist guard Jared Jordan is currently averaging 17.6 points per game this season. The last time any Marist player finished a season averaging that many points was the 1993-94 campaign when Izett Buchanan averaged a school-record 25.4 points per game.

1,000/500: Marist guard Jared Jordan snared seven rebounds in the 71-66 win over Loyola to become just the fifth player in school history to amass 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. For his career, he now was 1,518 points and 544 career rebounds. The other members of that illustrious list are: Rik Smits (1984-88, 1,945 points, 811 rebounds), Izett Buchanan (1990-94, 1,593 points, 613 rebounds), Alan Tomidy (1992-96, 1,506 points, 838 rebounds) and Miroslav Pecarski (1985-89, 1,196 points, 655 rebounds).

BALL CONTROL A MUST: The Red Foxes have made just 131 turnovers (10.9 per game) in each their last 13 games. Marist had averaged 15.4 turnovers in the 19 previous games this season.

RACE TO 35?: The 5:00 mark of the second half has been a big factor since last season. Marist is 42-2 when leading with five minutes to go in its last 61 games. The Red Foxes' 75-72 loss in the 2005-06 season opener and the 75-74 loss at Manhattan this season are the only two exceptions.

EYE ON ASSISTS: Marist is 20-0 this season when it has more assists than its opponent, but just 4-8 when it has the same amount or fewer.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Marist is prominently featured in the national rankings. The Red Foxes are 14th nationally in 3-pointers per game (9.2). Individually, Jordan leads the nation with 8.8 assists per game. Will Whittington also checks in at second in the country with 4.0 3-pointers per game.

KEYS TO VICTORY: Marist is 19-4 when it outrebounds its opponent or ties in the category. The Red Foxes are also 15-1 when they make more free throws and 11-1 when they register more steals.

WHAT IT TAKES: Marist is 14-0 this season when it shoots 46.6 percent or better and 18-4 when it registers at least 71 points.

BACKCOURT CAN BE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE MARIST RECORD BOOK: Marist guards Will Whittington have begun to sneak into more of Marist's career records this season. Jordan is now second in assists (801), third in field goals made (539), fourth in field goals attempted (1196), fifth in steals (157), fifth in free throws made (288), sixth in free throws attempted (409), sixth in points (1,518), sixth in 3-point attempts (462), seventh in 3-pointers made (152), eighth in rebounds (544) and 10th in scoring average (13.2). Whittington is first in 3-pointers made (352), first in 3-point attempts (834), fourth in 3-point percentage (.422), fifth in field goal attempts (1,122), fifth in points (1,537), seventh in scoring average (13.7), seventh in field goals made (464), eighth in free throw percentage (.786) and ninth in free throws made (257).

TRIO HITS THE TRIFECTAS: Marist currently has three of the most prolific 3-point shooters in school history on this year's roster. Junior Will Whittington is fourth (.422, 352-834),  and senior James Smith is seventh (.394, 82-208).

STILPHEN COMES THROUGH AT THE LINE: Redshirt junior forward Ryan Stilphen came into the season with a career free throw percentage of .550 (111-202). However, the Bay Village, Ohio native has improved his prowess at the stripe this season as he has connected on 69 of 102 attempts (.676). In MAAC games, Stilphen has made 47 of 66 attempts (71.2 percent).

THE GOOD: Marist currently leads the league (through Mar. 12) in six categories (all games): 3-pointers made (9.16), scoring margin (+6.7), defensive rebounding (25.41), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.18), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.317) and assists (15.34). Individually, Will Whittington also leads the MAAC with 3.97 3-pointers per game. In conference games only, Marist is first in defensive rebounding (25.72), assists (16.11), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.32), rebound margin (+4.3), scoring margin (+7.2) and 3-pointers made (9.17). Individually, Will Whittington has the lead in the 3-pointers per game category (4.0).

THE BAD: Marist is 10th in the league (all games) in steals (5.28). In conference games only, the Red Foxes are also last in steals (5.00).

LOTS OF 3'S: During the Brady era, it is no secret that the 3-pointer has become the key cog in the offense, especially with the glut of long-range shooters that the Red Foxes possess. However, the 2006-07 team is on pace to break new ground in terms of the impact the 19'9" shot has had. Marist has taken 44.2 percent (819) of its total field goal attempts (1851) from behind the arc this season. That percentage, the 15th-highest in the nation right now according to www.kenpom.com, is also the highest for the program in at least the last six seasons. The full list is below.

3-Point Attempt Percentage:

2006-07: 819 3-point attempts, 1851 field goal attempts (44.2)

2005-06: 660 3-point attempts, 1613 field goal attempts (40.9)

2004-05: 603 3-point attempts, 1534 field goal attempts (39.3)

2003-04: 522 3-point attempts, 1625 field goal attempts (32.1)

2002-03: 610 3-point attempts, 1714 field goal attempts (35.6)

2001-02: 583 3-point attempts, 1614 field goal attempts (36.1)

A HISTORY OF NOT-SO-FREEBIES: The Red Foxes are currently seventh in the MAAC in free throw shooting at 67.7 percent (430-635). The charity stripe has not been kind to Marist over the past three seasons as the Red Foxes have finished ninth, ninth, and 10th in the league during that span. Those numbers are a steep drop for a program that led the MAAC in the category in 2001-02 (74.6 percent) and finished second (77.8 percent) in 2002-03.

DIFFERENCES IN HALVES: Marist yields 30.1 points per game in the first half, but gives up 37.5 points in the second stanza.

RECORD-SETTER: Whittington is now the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 352, surpassing Danny Basile's total of 239 from 1992-96.

NO BLEACHER BUMS HERE: The Marist basketball programs have gone 36-2 (through 2/25) with the new seating additions at the McCann Center, which increased the building's capacity to 3,200. The Marist men have gone 19-2, while the women's squad boasts a perfect 17-0 mark.

JORDAN JOINS WHITTINGTON IN THE 1,000 CLUB: Senior guard Jared Jordan netted 17 points in the 78-62 victory at Delaware to become the 24th player in Marist history to surpass 1,000 career points. Whittington is fifth with 1,537 points, while Jordan is sixth with 1,518 points. Danny Basile is fourth all-time with 1,555 points from 1992-96.

Marist All-Time Scoring List

1. Steve Smith 2,077 (1979-83)

20. Fred Weiss 1,059 (1962-65)

21. Bill Gowen 1,046 (1968-71)

22. Bill Spenla 1,008 (1968-71)

23. Sean Kennedy 1,007 (1998-2002)

24. John Kijonek 1,001 (1985-86, 1988-89)

GOOD STARTS, GOOD SCORES: In its last 61 games, Marist is 30-9 when it has scored first and 34-6 when it leads at the half. The Red Foxes are also 17-8 when the game has been decided by 5-9 points, 21-2 when they score at least 80 points and 25-1 when their opponents tally 68 points or less.

STILPHEN FOURTH IN SCHOOL FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE: Redshirt junior Ryan Stilphen has dented the school record book in field goal percentage. The Bay Village, Ohio native is fourth all-time (min. 100 field goals made), connecting on 337 of 592 shots for 56.9 percent. Rik Smits is the all-time leader with a 60.9 clip (756-for-1,241).

STREAK STILL ALIVE: Marist has connected on a 3-point field goal attempt in 225 straight games. The Red Foxes were 0-7 against American on December 7, 1999. That is the only game that the Red Foxes have not hit a 3-pointer since the inception of the 3-point line for the 1986-87 season, snapping the previous streak of 374 games. Overall, the Red Foxes have nailed a 3-pointer in 600 of 601 games played (99.8 percent) in their history. Marist's streak looked in jeopardy against Delaware on Nov. 26 of last season, when the Red Foxes were 0-8 in the first half from behind the arc. Marist finished with a trio of three-point baskets to preserve the streak.

STILPHEN, SMITH CRASH THE GLASS: Redshirt junior Ryan Stilphen and senior James Smith are two of the Red Foxes' most tenacious rebounders in history. The 6'8 Stilphen stands eighth on Marist's career rebounds per game list with 6.1 boards (485) per contest in 80 career games, while the 7'0 Smith is ninth in rebounding average with 6.0 rebounds (365) in 61 career games. Stilphen is also 10th all-time in school history with those 478 total boards.

45: Dating back to 2004-05, a magic number has appeared on the stat sheet. The Red Foxes are 11-27 in the Matt Brady era (89 games) when they shoot the ball less than 45 percent from the field and 42-8 when they better that number.

THE HALF IS THE KEY: Over the course of Brady's tenure (89 games), whether or not Marist has the lead at the break has dictated the contest's end result more often than not. Marist is 42-11 when it leads at halftime and just 11-25 when it is tied or trailing to the opponent.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE: Limiting its opponent's output has proved to be a struggle at times for Marist during the Brady era. The Red Foxes are just 3-13 over that span when their opponent shoots better than 50 percent and just 15-24 when their opponent makes more free throws.

CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR: The Red Foxes' 75-74 loss at Manhattan represented another in a line of frustrating losses for Marist over the past three seasons. In the Brady era, the team is just 8-12 in games decided by four points or less.

LOTS OF OVERTIMES: Marist's 98-88 overtime win against Siena was the Red Foxes' fourth overtime game of the season (all wins). The last time Marist had this many overtime games in a season was the 1994-95 season when the Red Foxes went 1-3 in four overtime contests (W-Monmouth, L-Fairleigh Dickinson, at Rider and Mount St. Mary's).

RECORD-SETTING OFFENSE: Marist's 98 points scored against Siena on Saturday was the most for the program since scoring 108 in a losing effort at Niagara (119) on Jan. 18, 1999.

BREAKING NEW GROUND?: With the 98-88 overtime win Saturday against Siena, the Red Foxes set a men's school record for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference wins with 14 and overall wins with 23. The men also captured the outright MAAC regular season championship for the first time in school history. Marist shared the title during the 2001-02 season with Rider at 13-5, but was the second seed during the MAAC Tournament.

TOUGH D: The 47 points allowed by Marist in the win over Colgate is the fewest for the program since yielding 47 to Delaware State on Nov. 19, 1999 in a 72-47 victory by the Red Foxes in the Pepsi Marist Classic.

ONE-POINTERS: After the 79-78 win at Rider and the 65-64 victory over Fairfield, it marked the first time that the program had captured back-to-back one-point wins in its 26 years in Division I. The only other time Marist has even played back-to-back one-point games was in the 1996-97 season when it defeated Rider 58-57 on Feb. 17, 1997 and lost at St. Francis, N.Y. 70-69 on Feb. 20, 1997.

SCHOOL RECORD: Marist's 17 3-pointers in the 98-88 overtime win over Siena topped the mark set previously this season against Rider. In that game, Whittington also nailed eight himself for the fourth time in his career, yet again tying the school record which is also held by Joey O'Connor (vs. Loyola, 1987-88) and Many Otero (vs. Monmouth, 1996-97).

REJECTION CITY: Manhattan registered seven blocked shots in the 75-74 win over Marist. That total was the most Marist has allowed in a game since Dec. 22, 2004 when Notre Dame also knocked away that many in an 88-73 win in the Joyce Center. Loyola forward Omari Isreal was a member of that squad and played five minutes against Marist that day, missing his only field goal attempt in addition to a foul.

FAST HOME START: Marist had won each of its first eight home contests before Niagara defeated the Red Foxes 83-75 to snap the streak. The last time the Red Foxes had a longer unbeaten home start was the 1995-96 campaign when it won its first nine games.

PEPSI MARIST CLASSIC: Saturday's 71-56 win over Central Arkansas gave Marist its first Pepsi Marist Classic title since the 2001-02 season when it defeated Drexel (75-67) and Columbia (69-59).
