FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Today's championship round in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Tournament between Marist and Canisius will be played on the campus of Fairfield University. The tournament began play at DeLuca Field in Stratford, Conn., on Thursday. After heavy rain forced all of Friday's games to be postponed, the tournament was moved to Alumni Field on Fairfield's campus for Thursday's games, and it will remain there today.
Marist (24-29), the fourth seed in the tournament, advanced to today's final after recording a 6-0 win over Niagara and a 6-1 triumph against Fairfield in the losers' bracket yesterday. Canisius (37-12), the tournament's top seed, defeated Marist 9-4 on Thursday and recorded a 6-1 win against Fairfield in the winners' bracket final on Saturday.
This is the second straight year the Red Foxes and Golden Griffins have reached the championship round, with Canisius prevailing last year. Marist is looking for its second MAAC championship in program history, with the first coming in 2006. In order to accomplish that, Marist will need to defeat Canisius twice today, while the Golden Griffins will need just one win to earn the championship.
Today's action will be broadcast on GoRedFoxes.com beginning at 11:50 a.m.
