POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with the Loyola Greyhounds, on a rainy Friday night at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest. Sophomore Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) made four saves for Marist.
After a scoreless first half, Marist (6-6-2, 2-2-1 MAAC) got on the board first as Brossard took a feed from Witkowski on the left side, and Brossard beat Loyola goalkeeper Kyle Wittman on a shot to the far post in the 56th minute. Brossard, the reigning conference co-rookie of the week, is on a three-game goal scoring streak, and during the stretch he has scored four times.
Loyola (6-6-2, 3-0-1 MAAC) answered 38 seconds later as Glenn Leitch took a feed from Wade McHugh. Leitch beat Pilla to the near post to even the score at one with 34:18 to play in regulation.
The Red Foxes claimed their second one-goal lead of the night in the 82nd minute when Witkowski capitalized off a Greyhounds turnover. He scored his third goal of the season from about three yards away. Eddie Dines scored the final goal for Loyola in the 88th minute to arrive at the final 2-2 score.
The matchup featured two regionally ranked by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Loyola was ranked eighth, while Marist ranked 10th in the latest poll.
Marist outshot Loyola 15-13 in the match and had two corner kick opportunities in the second stanza, just 1:39 apart. The Red Foxes took four corner kicks in the match.
The Marist men's soccer team will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. The Red Foxes will host the Rider Broncs in a MAAC match.
