POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist freshman kicker Jason Myers (Chula Vista, Calif.) was named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced Sunday. Myers kicked the game-winning field goal in the Red Foxes' 23-21 victory over Georgetown on Saturday, as his 37-yard boot sailed through the uprights with just one second remaining.
Myers' field goal was the longest of his collegiate career. He also handled Marist's kickoff duties and had a touchback against Georgetown.
For the season, Myers is 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts and 14-for-16 on extra-point tries. He also has three touchbacks while serving as the Red Foxes' primary kickoff specialist.
Myers' award is the fourth PFL weekly honor the Red Foxes have earned this season. Sophomore cornerback/kick returner Chris Debowski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week Six.
With the win over Georgetown, Marist improved to 6-3 overall. The Red Foxes have clinched their first winning season since 2005. They are riding a five-game winning streak, which is the longest in the program's 32-year varsity history.
Marist, which is 4-2 in PFL play returns to action next on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Davidson (3-6 overall, 3-4 PFL). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
