Marist Football Opens 2026 Season at New Haven

Red Foxes Face Chargers 6 p.m. Friday

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University football team opens the 2026 season on Friday at New Haven. It marks the beginning of the Red Foxes' 61^st season of competition.

How to Follow

Geoff Brault (play-by-play) and Steve Eggink (analyst) will have the call on the Red Fox Network and Varsity Network app. The pre-game show will begin at 5:45.
In-game updates will be available on X via Marist Football (@Marist_FBall).
The game will be shown on NEC Front Row, with J.W. Stewart (play-by-play) and Emory Hunt (analyst) on the call.

Our Leaders

Marist has three captains this season: graduate QB Sonny Mannino, senior LB Kade Werner, and senior RB Lincoln Cardillo.
Mannino is a captain for the second straight year, while Werner and Cardillo are both first-time captains.

Marist in the NFL

Jason Myers, who played at Marist from 2009-12 and graduated in 2013, is in his eighth season as the Seattle Seahawks' placekicker and 12th in the NFL.
- Last season, Myers became a Super Bowl champion. He set the NFL record for points scored over an entire season, and Super Bowl records for most field goals and most points scored by a kicker.
- He has been named to the Pro Bowl twice (2018, 2022).
Connor Hulstein, who played at Marist in 2025, is currently on the New York Jets' roster. Hulstein caught a pass in a preseason game at Pittsburgh on Aug. 21.

Historical Facts

This is Marist's second meeting all-time with New Haven, and it is the first contest played at New Haven.
This is Marist's first game in the state of Connecticut since Sept. 17, 2016, when the Red Foxes played at Sacred Heart.

A Win Would ...

Make Marist victorious its season opener for the second straight year. Marist last won back-to-back season openers in 2011 and 2012.
Be Marist's first in a season opener on the road since 2012 (at Bryant, 35-10).
Be Marist's first in the state of Connecticut since Sept. 3, 2011, when the Red Foxes earned a 20-7 victory at Sacred Heart in what was the 100th win of former head coach Jim Parady's career.

Of the 42 newcomers, there are 31 freshmen and 11 transfers.
Marist returns 14 total starters from last season (six offense, eight defense).

Marist has nine Connecticut natives (tied with Pennsylvania for the fourth most of any state): TE Bryce Anderson, DB Nathaniel Banton, TE Joey Bemis, RB Lincoln Cardillo, LB Damian Carrano, OL Dylan Geddes-Mc Greal, TE Richie Lang, WR Jayden Taylor, and DL Todd Woodring.

Preseason Platitudes

QB Sonny Mannino was named PFL Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by Phil Steele Publications. Mannino, DB Chase Hatton, and LB Nate Furrow earned First Team honors. OL Will Aaronson, WR Lance Martinez, DB Tyrell Powell, and P Ethan Yuska were named Second Team. PR Jeremy DeCaro was named Third Team.
Mannino and Hatton were named Preseason All-PFL in the league's official poll.
Lincoln Cardillo is Marist's nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

About New Haven

In its first season as a Division I program in 2025, the Chargers went 5-5 overall, including a 4-0 mark at home.
New Haven will be playing a Northeast Conference schedule for this first time this season.
Quarterback AJ Duffy, who was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week three times last season while throwing for 2,399 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, is returning.
Head coach Mark Powell is in his second season leading the program.
