HANOVER, N.H. - The Marist men's tennis team won 10 matches on Saturday during the second day of play at the Dartmouth Shootout. The Red Foxes wrapped up play in the doubles draw, and began the singles draw with the Round of 16 and quarterfinal matchups.
Senior Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany), and freshmen Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) and Bradley Royes (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each advanced to the semifinals in their singles flights. Reznek and von Nordheim each won two matches to earn their spot, while Solly was awarded a bye and won his quarterfinal matchup to earn his semifinal spot.
In Flight D, von Nordheim won each of his matches handily in straight sets. In the Round of 16 he bested Ryan Schmitz of Stony Brook, 6-2, 6-2. In his second match of the day, von Nordheim defeated Dartmouth's Bryan Song 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Reznek earned a pair of three set victories in Flight B. He first beat Amherst's Joey Fritz 6-4, 2-6, 10-5, and then took down Henry Jang-Milsten of Hudson River Valley foe Army 1-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Royes won his lone match of the day in the Flight E quarterfinals. He defeated Charles Hamond of Williams, 6-2, 6-1.
In other Flight B singles action, freshman Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) saved a number of match points in the second set. He came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set and escaped with a 4-6, 7-6 (7), 10-8 victory over Brantner Jones of Middlebury. Klassen fell in straight sets in the quarterfinals.
Senior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and junior Chris Foster (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each won their first round matches in Flight A and C, respectively. Each player lost in the quarterfinals.
In doubles action, senior Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Klassen took home third place in Flight C with an 8-2, win over Max Sztabholz and Roope Kailaheimo of Stony Brook.
The Red Foxes will wrap up play at the Dartmouth Shootout on Sunday. Participants will play in the semifinals and finals of the singles draws.
