POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Freshman Danielle Koltz (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) of the Marist softball team broke up a no-hitter with one out in the seventh, but the Red Foxes fell short of a comeback. The team dropped game two of a doubleheader 3-0 to Yale at the Softball Park in Gartland Field on Wednesday.
Marist brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh after a walk by sophomore Lindsay Durant (Martinsville, N.J.) followed Koltz's hit, but freshman Christina Lausch (Lancaster, Pa.) grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the rally. Kayla Kuretich got the win for Yale.
Sophomore pitcher Caitlin Schell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) pitched seven innings for Marist, allowing three runs, she struck out five. Schell cruised through Yale's lineup until the fifth when Lauren Huddleston hit a three-run homer over the left field wall to put Yale up 3-0. Schell allowed just three more hits the rest of the game.
After splitting the doubleheader, Marist is now 13-12 all-time against Yale after 25 matchups. The loss ends Marist's three-game win streak.
The Red Foxes return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Binghamton. Marist leads the all-time series against the Bearcats. Game one begins at 2:30 p.m., at the Softball Park in Gartland Field.
