POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Binghamton Bearcats scored early and often in the final game of a doubleheader against the Red Foxes, prevailing by a score of 9-0. The Red Foxes struggled to string hits together, as they totaled four hits in the contest. With the loss Marist fell to 4-16 this season and 1-3 at the Softball Park at Gartland Field.
Marist freshman Brittany English (Wilton, Conn.) chipped in with two singles also and went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Sophomore Caitlin Schell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) started the game in the circle for the Red Foxes and was given the loss on the day. She pitched four innings, gave up nine earned runs on five hits, while striking out one. Koltz finished the game for Marist as she pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Binghamton came out of the gates fast scoring three runs in their first trip to the plate and two more in the top of the second half. The Bearcats finished the offensive explosion with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
Marist made a valiant effort to comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning as they strung together back-to-back singles by English and sophomore center fielder Ashley Corriss (Sayville, N.Y.).
Marist will close out a six-game homestand on Tuesday, March 30th as they play host to Temple for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
