FAIRFAX, VA. - Behind a two-run double from junior Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.), the Marist softball team picked up its first win of the 2010 season on Sunday morning. The Red Foxes defeated George Mason 2-1 in a road game, Marist's final contest in the 2010 George Mason Invitational. The Red Foxes are now 1-3 this season.
Marist scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomores Megan Lamoureux (Woonsocket, R.I.) drew a one out walk, while classmate Nicole DiVirgilio drew a two out walk. Malloy drove in both base runners with a two out double to left field.
Freshman pitcher Danielle Koltz (Chenango Valley, N.Y.) picked up her first collegiate win in her debut in the circle. She threw a complete game and scattered four hits. Koltz struck out five in the game. She retired six in a row from the second through the fourth innings.
Malloy went 2-for-3 in the game with a double and a single.
Marist will return to action at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., from March 13-20. The Red Foxes will first take on Butler at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 13.
