POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist men's soccer head coach Matt Viggiano, who completed his fourth season leading the Red Foxes in 2010, announced the addition Darryl Sullivan to the staff for on Tuesday. Sullivan will begin in his role at Marist during the 2011 season. Sullivan joins the Marist staff with a wealth of coaching experience at the club and high school levels.
"It's a no brainer to bring someone of Darryl's pedigree into our program," Viggiano said. "His history of success and ties to the Hudson River Valley made his hire a win-win for Marist."
Sullivan comes from John Jay High School, where he spent the last five years as head coach of the women's soccer program. During the five years, Sullivan compiled a record of 94-8-5, two state titles and numerous top-10 national rankings. In 2008 Sullivan earned ESPN Rise National Coach of the Year. Sullivan was also named the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) New York State and Regional Coach of the Year.
Prior to his time at John Jay, Sullivan was Co-Head Coach of the boys' soccer program at Ketcham High School. In five years at Ketcham, Sullivan helped guide the program to three New York State Final Fours and compiled an 81-22-8 record.
In 10 years of varsity high school coaching, Sullivan has compiled a record of 175-30-13 record.
Currently, Sullivan is a club coach at Soccer Plus Academy a premier club located in the Hudson Valley.
As a player Sullivan competed for John Jay High School and earned All-State Honors. He is a member of Thomas Macrini Hall of Fame. He played collegiate soccer at Virginia Wesleyan College.
Sullivan graduated from Mount Saint Mary College with a degree in History and Education and his Masters in Secondary Education from Mercy College. Sullivan resides in Wappingers Falls with his three sons Darryl, Dylan, and Donovan.
The Red Foxes notched their second straight season with a winning percentage of .500 or better in 2010. Marist concluded the season with an overall mark of 9-9.
