POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team fell in a non-conference dual home meet to Fordham Thursday night. In the 144-99 defeat junior
Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with two individual victories. Sophomore
Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) and freshman
Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.) also earned individual wins for Marist.
Conard collected her wins in both of the distance freestyle events, the 500- and 1000-yd. In event three, the 1000-yd freestyle, Conard finished with a time of 10:21.99, 11.04 ahead of the second place finishing Kara Fields of Fordham. She earned her second win with a 5:07.42 time in the 500-yd race.
Arciello took victory in the 50-yd freestyle event with a time of 24.74. In the accompanying sprint race, the 100-yd freestyle, she garnered Marist four points with a second place finish of 53.80.
Leberfinger was the final individual victor as she swam to a dominate win in the 200-yd breaststroke. With her time of 2:25.43, the freshman defeated the second place finisher Savannah Coe of Fordham by 7.29 seconds.
Marist split the relay races, as they won the 400-yd freestyle. The team of Arciello,
Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.),
Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) and Conard held off the hard charging Fordham “A” team with a .25 second victory of 3:36.13.
In diving action, freshman
Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) was the top performing Red Fox as she earned a second place finish in the 1-meter board with 249.25 points, 3.72 short of Fordham's Libby Dorger. In the 3-meter, she in third with 222.30 points.
The Red Foxes will be in action next Saturday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Rider for a 1 p.m. MAAC meet.
