POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team easily defeated Binghamton University 172-125 Saturday afternoon at the McCann Natatorium. Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y) and Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J) each won multiple individual events for the Red Foxes.
Conard won the 500 freestyle by a full nine seconds at 5:02.71 and the
200-yd freestyle by over five seconds at 1:55.38. In the 200-yd
individual medley, she edged out Leberfinger with a time of 2:11.18 versus 2:12.12.
Leberfinger was victorious in the 100 and 200-yd breaststroke events with times of 1:05.67 and 2:22.87. The freshman also chipped in to help Marist win the 200 Medley Relay.
Other individual winners for the Red Foxes included Emily Miles (Long Valley, N.J) in the 100-yd butterfly at 1:00.06, Allison Kreho (Shelton, Conn.) in the 200-yd backstroke at 2:09.16, Erica Vitale (Sterling, Conn.) in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:09.65 and Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.) in the 1,000-yd freestyle at 10:41.43.
Four separate times Marist took the top two spots in an event, including the top three spots in the 500 Freestyle with Conard and Orr finishing around Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.).
Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) won both the 1m and 3m diving competitions with scores of 236.25 and 239.77, respectively.
The Red Foxes improved to 4-1 on the season. The team will next be in action at MAAC opponent Loyola on Dec. 2-3 in Baltimore. Iona and Saint Peter's will also take part in the H20unds Invitational.
