POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team won both of its matches on Saturday afternoon at the Marist Tennis Pavilion, first beating Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Saint Peter's 6-1 and then handling Hartford 7-0. "Overall, I was impressed with the play of our freshmen, Rossi and Reznek, against formidable opponents," Marist coach Tim Smith said.
Match One
"In the match against Saint Peter's, scorers were not indicative of the match play," Smith said. "They played us tough at first and second doubles and at second and third singles."
At first singles, freshman Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) fell to Robert Forai 7-6 (4), 6-4, (10-7).
For the second consecutive day, senior Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) lost his first set, but rebounded to win in singles. In the third position, Pisecky ousted Edwin Huisman 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) defeated Chris Frakes (5-0, ret.). In the final slot, freshman Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) beat Lucas Coutinho 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, senior Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) performed well for the second consecutive day, teaming with Pisecky to defeat Forai and Chris Frakes 8-5. Himmelsbach and Van Eck lost to Igel and Huisman 8-6 at second doubles. The freshman pair of Rossi and Reznek defeated Alex Frakes and Coutinho 8-2 at third doubles, continuing their strong play as a doubles team.

"This is an example of the depth of our team because we were able to play a variety of players as we sat our second and third guys preparing for our annual rivalry against Army on Monday," Smith said.
First serve of Monday's match against Army is slated for 3:30 p.m. in West Point, N.Y.
