Marist Men's Soccer Players Earning Accolades In Off-Season

Aug. 10, 2011

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In preparation for the 2011 season, two Red Foxes were busy garnering accolades for their offseason play this summer. Senior Krystian Witkowski (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior Josh Faga (Rochester, N.Y.) spent their time away from Poughkeepsie playing for FC Buffalo in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

Playing central defensive midfield for FC Buffalo Faga earned attention from media, coaches and fellow teammates. "He's been our most consistent player," remarked head coach Dan Krzyzanowicz to Buffalo.com's Ben Tsujimoto. "He's brought quality game in and game out, and earned man of the match honors a few times." As a result of his strong play, Faga was named the Most Valuable Player and Unsung Hero in the team's postseason awards presentation, in which Buffalo players, coaches and staff voted.

Faga's summer included an extended tryout with the Chicago Fire's reserve team in the PDL.

Like his teammate, Witkowski garnered attention for his play as Buffalo.com named him the team's most dangerous dribbler, "he was, without question, the team's most dangerous attacker in open space with the ball at his feet" Tsujimoto wrote. The Buffalo.com accolades concluded with both Witkowski and Faga being named the players with the "Greatest Professional Potential."

The thought of Witkowski having professional potential was also noted by Joe Mauceri of TopDrawerSoccer.com. In his first "Joe's Big Board" released on August 4, Mauceri ranks Witkowski number 88 among the top 100 seniors who are looking the most likely to be playing professionally following their college careers.
