Final Stats
BOSTON, Mass. - The Marist men's soccer team (1-1) fell to Northeastern (2-0) by a score of 2-0 in their Thursday evening meeting. A first-half goal by Northeastern was all that the Huskies would need as a the Red Foxes had a hard time recreating the offensive output from their season opener last week at Army. Krystian Witkowski (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Marist offense with four shots.
Dante Marini got the Huskies on the board in the 23rd minute as he took a pass from Mike Kennedy near the penalty spot and put a shot into the back of the net. The Red Foxes tried to equalize the score in the first half, as they kept the pressure on and took six shots.
Kennedy, a preseason All-CAA honoree was involved in the second score as well, as he was on the receiving end of a Marini pass twelve yards out in the 53rd minute. After taking the ball under control he fired a shot into the low right corner of the goal.
Marist goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) made two saves for the Red Foxes in a losing effort.
For the game Northeastern outshot Marist 11-8 and put more shots on goal at 4-2.
The Red Foxes will next be in action on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. as they host Adelphi in their 2011 home opener at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
