Marist Drops 52-28 To Georgetown In Home Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist football team dropped its home opener to Georgetown on Saturday by a score of 52-28 before 3,029 fans at Tenney Stadium. Sophomore wide receiver Armani Martin (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) set career highs with 162 receiving yards on six receptions, and scored the first touchdown of his career.

Making his first time of the season, senior quarterback Tommy Reilly (Marlton, N.J.) was 22-for-33 for 305 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. It was the fourth 300-yard game of Reilly's career.

Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, Marist got on the scoreboard 1:39 into the second quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by senior Ryan Dinnebeil (River Vale, N.J.). After a pair of Georgetown touchdowns ran the Hoyas' lead to 28-7, Reilly hit junior tight end Anthony Calcagni (Thornwood, N.Y.) for an 18-yard touchdown 16 seconds before halftime to make the score 28-14 in favor of Georgetown.

After Georgetown's Anthony Moore returned an interception 38 yards to the Marist 12, Scott Darby threw a touchdown to Max Waizenegger on the next play to put the Hoyas up 35-14. Two possessions later, Reilly threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Martin to bring the Red Foxes back within 14. After Darby's third touchdown pass of the day put Georgetown back up by 21, Reilly threw a five-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Kevin Fitzpatrick (Columbia, Md.) early in the fourth quarter, but Marist would come no closer as Georgetown scored the final 10 points of the game.

Georgetown outgained Marist 490-354. Darby finished 18-for-22 for 211 yards and four touchdowns, with two going to Waizenegger. Brandon Durham ran for 103 yards on just eight carries and a touchdown.

Georgetown improved to 3-1, while Marist fell to 1-3. The Red Foxes will return to action next Saturday with a Pioneer Football League contest against Jacksonville. Kickoff is set for noon.
