NEW HAVEN, Conn.
- The Marist women's swimming and diving team earned a 61 point win in
non-conference action over Southern Connecticut State on the strength of 11
event wins. Junior Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) led three Red Foxes, who
earned multiple event wins. She was joined by senior Allison Kreho (Shelton,
Conn.) and freshman Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.).
In preparation for next month's MAAC Championships, a
multitude of Red Foxes swam in events outside of their normal setting to push
their boundaries and earn times.
Normally a distance stalwart, Conard earned victories in
the three shortest freestyle lengths on Saturday. In the 50-yd race she won
with a time of 25.09, in the 100-yd she clocked in at 54.09 and completed the
200-yd in a time of 1:55.11.
Kreho also participated outside her regular events a bit
as she won the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:15.44 and the 500-yd freestyle
at 5:18.99.
In diving action, Tobias continued her strong freshman
season with a sweep of the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 263.24 and
257.39, respectively.
Other first place finishers for Marist on the day
include: senior Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.), Sophomore Maddie Arciello
(Missoula, Mont.), freshman Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.) and the 200-yd
medley relay "A" team.
Fountain swam to a victory in the 1650-yd freestyle with
a time of 17:46.64, while Arciello won the 100-yd butterfly at 1:00.58.
Leberfinger finished the 200-yd backstroke in a 2:15.45 time.
Kreho, Leberfinger and Fountain were joined by senior
Amanda Letchko (Newton, N.J.) on the first place medley relay "A" squad.
The
Red Foxes will begin their final homestand of the season with the first of two
meets next Saturday, Jan. 21. They will welcome Boston College to the McCann
Natatorium in a 1 p.m. meet.
